The Department of Defense announced today the death of two soldiers who were supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.  They died Nov. 12 of injuries sustained from an improvised explosive device in Bagram, Afghanistan.  The soldiers were assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Special Troops Battalion, 1st Sustainment Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Killed were:

          Sgt. John W. Perry, 30, of Stockton, California

          Pfc. Tyler R. Iubelt, 20, of Tamaroa, Illinois

Department of Defense Identifies Navy Casualty


The Department of Defense announced today the death of a sailor who was supporting Operation Inherent Resolve.

Senior Chief Petty Officer Scott C. Dayton, 42, of Woodbridge, Virginia, died Nov. 24 in northern Syria, of wounds sustained in an improvised explosive device blast.

He was assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit Two, which is based in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

DoD Identifies Army Casualty

Sgt. First Class Allan E. Brown, 46, of Takoma Park, Maryland, died Dec. 6 at Walter Reed National Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland, of injuries sustained from an improvised explosive device in Bagram, Afghanistan, that occurred on Nov. 12.

He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Special Troops Battalion, 1st Sustainment Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Also killed in the incident were:

          Sgt. John W. Perry, 30, of Stockton, California, who died Nov. 12.

          Pfc. Tyler R. Iubelt, 20, of Tamaroa, Illinois, who died Nov. 12.

Spc. Isiah L. Booker, of Cibolo, Texas, died Jan. 7, in Jordan, in a non-combat related incident. The incident is under investigation.

Booker was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Spc. John P. Rodriguez, of Hemet, Calif., died Jan.12, in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility in a non-combat related incident. The incident is under investigation.

Rodriguez was assigned to 2nd Engineer Battalion, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss,Texas.

Department of Defense Identifies Navy Casualty


The Department of Defense announced today the death of a U.S. Navy sailor who was supporting U.S. Central Command Operations.

Chief Special Warfare Operator William "Ryan" Owens, 36, of Peoria, Illinois, died Jan. 28 in the Arabian Peninsula of Yemen, of wounds sustained in a raid against al-Qaida.

He was assigned to an East Coast based Special Warfare unit.
