Starbucks sticks to its guns
By MONICA GUZMAN
The Seattle-based coffee giant was thrust in the middle of a gun-control debate it never wanted to have when it refused a request from gun-control groups to ban guns in its stores this winter.
The company gave short, curt statements as the issue gained traction over the past several weeks. On Wednesday, as gun-control advocates prepared a Seattle news conference in view of the original Starbucks store, the company spoke loud and clear: We've made our decision. Can we please move on?
"Advocacy groups from both sides of this issue have chosen to use Starbucks as a way to draw attention to their positions," Starbucks said in the lengthy statement it released Wednesday morning. "As the public debate continues, we are asking all interested parties to refrain from putting Starbucks or our partners [employees] into the middle of this divisive issue."

Very wise of them. If gun owners boycott them, they will be very hurt. If the latte sipping lefties boycott them, they would feel that too.
Typical of the left, they want to force others to think/act they way they approve of.

Doesn't seem to me that Starbucks has much choice. If someone is legally carrying, they cannot be denied entry to a public place(with a few exeptions).

If that's state law then they are stuck.
Made the mistake of reading the comments. It was like seeing a psychiatrist's list of fantasy clients.
Lots of the lefties were guilty of, hysterical fear, projecting, displacement, stereotyping, elitism, and outright bigotry towards gun owners and the 2nd Amendment.
It just reminds me that liberals are fascists and mentally ill.

Your a gun control freak.
You go to a Starbucks.
A guy storms the building and screams, "PUT YOUR HANDS UP OR I WILL BLOW YOUR BRAINS OUT!"
Five Starbucks customers (but not you of course), an employee, and the manager put seven different sites on this clown.
Three other slow poke customers sluggishly do the same.
This bad guy now realizes he has more guns pointed at him then he has bullets in his chamber.
Says a customer/Iraq War Vet, "You want to give up or you want to get shot 40 to 50 times?"
Your giddy that you didn't get hurt. But you tell the TV news how terrorfied you were with all those guns being pointed everywhere (everywhere=the lone bad guy who was standing in one place the whole time).
Typical.
There are no atheists in a foxhole. But as soon as your safe and out of that foxhole, ~poof~, back to atheism.

I don't understand why Starbucks would ban guns. If someone has a permit, Starbucks can't supercede that permit and disallow the owner from bringing his or her guns into the store. I doubt there are enough Espresso shoot-outs to necessitate an anti-gun policy anyway.

In Texas the law is pretty clear that any business can prohibit firearms in their establishment. A sign displayed by the entrance is all it takes. There is no right to shop at starbucks. And no obligation to do business with them. It is pretty misguided for an establishment to prohibit permit holders from carrying on their premises, but it's their call. Criminals will ignore their wishes. If I have to walk back to my car to store my weapon it's a one way trip.

My question though is why. Was there an incident that occurred at a local Starbucks that prompted them to display the anti-firearm signs?
