Why is Factory ammo so hard to get. I went more than 2 months before I could find some 45 acp. I sold the gun because of that reason. Now some of my Hornady 308 ammo is hard to get.

Folks are stockpiling ammunition because of possible government restrictions that may make it harder to come by or at least way more expensive.
Also, the military has significantly ramped up training expenditures. Today’s military member is shooting about 10-20 times more per year than they used to and even non-combat folks are shooting quite a bit more.
I have read that all the leading manufacturers are at production capacity and that several are adding lines.
I have been able to get .45 when I need it but 9mm was a challenge for a few months. I found you have to shop around.
I’m getting a Dillon 550 press from a friend and going to load pistol ammo. My RCBS doesn’t have the capacity unless I want to sit in my cellar all night.

Perhaps that should be changed to "probable" government restrictions".

So far (knocking on wood) we can still get most ammo here and any kind of gun you want. But we are stocking up too, just for when the time comes.

Perhaps it is a Massachusetts thing. .45 & .308 is plentiful in my neck of the woods (literally) in Oregon.

When the stores are out, it's time to look online for ammo. Gunbroker.com is a favorite of mine, as well as Ammunitiontogo.com and Georgia-Arms.com. There is also a source I haven't tired yet, but I have read good reports about their product. You send them your brass and a check, they send you reloaded ammunition. They don't reload and send back to you your actual brass, but by keeping brass coming in they can keep producing product. Check them out at

Hope this helps. Keep Shooting!
