You realize, of course, that this means war.

The announced alliance of the Boston Red Sox and Cincinnati Reds, designed to monopolize the last roster spots in the All-Star Game, creates a baseball cartel that is anti-competitive, anti-American and just plain mean.

It needs to be stopped. The Red Sox and Reds are ganging up on the poor Padres and their Final Vote candidate, reliever Heath Bell. Worse, their sneaky scheme seems to be working.

Boston’s Kevin Youkilis and Cincinnati’s Joey Votto were leading the American and National League balloting for the 34th All-Star roster spots as of Tuesday’s totals, and while both players are doubtlessly deserving, both are also diminished by the organized vote trading taking place on their behalf.

All Star voting should be done like it was when I was a kid.

Paper ballots given out at the ball park.   One ticket, one vote.

Totally agree.  Onlyne they allow people to vote multiple tymes.  Then people just create new id's anyway.  There was one year where they handed out several ballots to fans at Fenway to stuff the ballot.

I still prefer the players should get voted in by the other players, not the fans.  Screw this it's a 'fans' game'.  It would still be a fans' game.  At least real fans anyway.  Most of these people voting probably don't even watch or know much about baseball anyway.  They are only interested in when their team wins or when they are in first or when their favorite player's jersey is coming out.  Roll Eyes

I was also curious how come this guy Batista on the Blue Jays, who is leading the league in homers wasn't even invyted to participate in the Home Run Derby.  Especially being so many others who were backed out because they didn't wish to break a nail or something.  Roll Eyes

Don't see you here enough, Clavin.  Yer my favorite Sox fan, ya know!!  Cheesy

Edit to add:

Watched the intros:

Unbelieveable!  Even in the Derby!  Roll Eyes  Ortiz has to come out with his earrings on.

I thought I was going to be watching a Home Run Derby...not a girlie fashion show!  Undecided

outrageous

the fans pay the freight.  If they want to see their favorites rather than some palooka who is having a good season, the who am I to say different.

how do they figger who gets to perform?

this forum, specially the political sections, moves too fast.  I do like the baseball talk, though.  Nobody talks baseball anymore.   Even though there is a lot of Sox hatin' from some Wink

wow, Ortiz won.  Earrings and all.

Now, lets hope that the A.L. keeps the streak alive.  As a kid they never won, now, they never lose.

What a wonderful All-Star pre-game show they had.

Featured a bunch of regular people throughout the country who were featured in People for being key parts of organizations of the less fortunate of this country.  And then the players milled with them on the field.  Very touching to witness.  The people honored were near tears during the recorded show with stars that gave storylynes of each person.   Cool

Game getting ready to start for anyone interested.

Hey!  What's with the earrings again?  Huh

Even in the All Star Game?  They're not allowed to wear them in the regular games are they?  Why should they be allowed in this game.

They do this just to pisss me off, don't they?  Undecided Grin

Congrats to NL for FINALLY winning another ALL Star Game...3-1.

They should have never messed with someone named (Marlon) Byrd in the 8th
with an 0-2 count and then walking him to load the bases.   Cheesy
