Naturalized-Texan's Spaghetti Sauce

The following recipe is my own. I developed it over the years since about 1956. My Texas addition was Tabasco Sauce to give it a little more zing.

N-T's Spaghetti Sauce

The following recipe produces enough sauce for one pound of spaghetti (or other pasta) and one pound of ground beef:

2 small cans or 1 15 oz. can of tomato sauce
2 small cans or 1 15 oz. can of tomato paste
1 T. onion powder
1 T. garlic powder
1 1/2 - 2 T. oregano
1 tsp. sweet basil
1 tsp. pepper
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. rosemary
2 dashes of Tabasco sauce
1 bay leaf
1 lb. ground beef
1 lb. spaghetti (or other pasta)

Combine sauce, paste, and seasonings in a sauce pan.  Stir and bring to boil  Simmer for about an hour, stirring occasionally.

About an hour before serving, add ground beef (plain or as meatballs) and simmer for another hour, stirring occasionally.

Cook pasta according to directions on the package and drain.  Combine pasta with spaghetti sauce and serve.

Yield: 6 to 8 servings

We are celebrating my wife's 81st birthday today and I just made a big enough batch of my sauce for 2 lbs. of spaghetti and 2 lbs. of meatballs to feed our family.

Sounds similar to how I've made my own, except, I add some cayenne pepper, as well as tabasco sauce.  Smiley

I am definitely trying this. The only exception I'll make, I always add some red wine to my spaghetti sauce. And after my spaghetti is cooked, I add butter and garlic salt to it and mix it together, then place it on each plate. After that, I add the sauce on top of that, then a hard-boiled egg. Wink

Mama mia! So good!

I have also used sausage occasionally.

I made spaghetti from this recipe Sunday to celebrate my wife's 82nd birthday.

As I was eating it I was thinking that I never order pasta with a red sauce at an Italian restaurant because the restaurant sauce is clearly inferior to mine. In many cases, Italian restaurant red sauces taste like little more than tomato juice by comparison to my sauce.
