Here's your new republican congress hard at work. Is it all about softening up congress for comprehensive immigration reform?

WASHINGTON- PA –  The trailblazing Pope Francis is set to make history, again.

On Sept. 24, the pontiff is scheduled to address a joint meeting of Congress, becoming the first one to do so.

House Speaker John Boehner made the announcement at a news conference, then issued a statement expressing gratitude that the pope had accepted his invitation to appear before a joint meeting of the House and Senate.

The pope is scheduled to make his first papal visit to the United States this fall, with other stops in New York and Philadelphia.

Earlier this year, Archbishop Bernardito Auza, who is Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations and is organizing Pope Francis’ trip to the United States, said that the Catholic leader was planning to address Congress and to visit the White House during a trip to the country’s capital in the fall.

Auza told the Catholic News Agency (CNA) that the pope is expected to arrive in Washington on Sept. 22 as part of a three-city U.S. tour that includes New York and Philadelphia. Auza said Francis will visit the White House and celebrate Mass at Washington’s Basilica on the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

“And we might say really the highlight of the Washington visit might be his speech to the joint-meeting of Congress, to the Senate and the House of Representatives,” he told CNA.

Last March, Boehner (R-Ohio) invited the pope to address Congress.

“Pope Francis has inspired millions of Americans with his pastoral manner and servant leadership, challenging all people to lead lives of mercy, forgiveness, solidarity, and humble service,” Boehner said in a statement at the time. “His tireless call for the protection of the most vulnerable among us – the ailing, the disadvantaged, the unemployed, the impoverished, the unborn – has awakened hearts on every continent.”

I bet Nancy and the Dimwits won't be too busy to attend this speech though.

It's what we talked about before and why I gave up on the Catholic Church.

Perfect example:

The parish that I am registered in has a brand new, beautiful church, a grade school and an high school. I go to another church in a poor area that I feel needs my meager donations more than my own parish.  In fact Stranger, since you once lived nearby in NJ you may recall the high school name...Mater Dei.

Suddenly out of nowhere they are closing the high school in June.  Ironically those that are complaining want Brian Williams to donate the money to keep it open.  He was born in Middletown and graduated from Mater Dei.

Now instead of building a new church that wasn't needed, (they still have the old one open as a chapel...it's a huge building.) they should have used the money to keep the high school open.

It is a rich parish and many suspect there is more going on than meets the eye.

My issue is that with all the money the Catholic Church has why don't they save it?  Look at the elaborateness of the Vatican.

I know the answer.  The CC is run like a business.  If a branch(parish) isn't doing well, shut it down.  In this case it's just the high school. They are all about the money.  But what remains unanswered is where is the money going. Like I said, this is a very wealthy parish.

Here's part of the saga:

http://www.nj.com/monmouth/index.ssf/2015/02/mater_dei_prep_in_middletown_announ...

The worst part is this:

"Over the many years, Mater Dei Prep has been running large financial deficits and enrollment numbers have not stabilized to the point of sufficiently supporting the school's viability," Kegley wrote. "It had been the hope of the Parish Finance Council and myself that these trends could be reversed. However, the 2014-2015 projected loss is close to one million dollars."

NO ONE HEARD A THING ABOUT FINANCIAL ISSUES UNTIL THEY ANNOUNCED THE CLOSING.

Even more striking is the fact that they have been trying to open a girl's school called Trinity for some time now and everywhere they want to locate it has been rejected by nearby homeowners.  The rumor is that they will take over the high school building.

Smells like a payoff somewhere. In fact here is what one poster commented...

346 students yet the school could not survive. How is it possible with the tuition that is charged this school could not support itself? Do the Math the numbers do not match. Where is all the $$$$$ going? to the diocese!

Suffice it to say I have little interest in the CC and even less in this Pope.  To add insult to injury he and I share the same Baptismal name.

I am familiar with Mater Dei, had a cousin thru marriage who played BB there. If the catholic church sold half their paintings and sculptures they could end world hunger tomorrow. But just like anything else there is greed at the TOP!
I also grew up catholic and went to catholic school until they asked/told my parents I had to leave. I now go to an OLD Baptist church that can't pay their bills month to month and love it. All old school and everything is right out of the Bible so you take it for what it is!

Pope Francis decries 'inhuman' conditions facing migrants at US-Mexico border

AN CITY (AP) –  Pope Francis has decried the "inhuman" conditions facing migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border and has encouraged communities there not to judge people by stereotypes but welcome migrants and work to end discrimination.

Francis made the appeal in a letter to a Jesuit priest who helps organize Catholic teens in Nogales, Arizona, to support the Kino Border Initiative, which advocates a more humane solution to migration. The letter was dated Dec. 19 but was made public on Kino's website recently.

"These young people — who have come to learn how to strive against the propagation of stereotypes, from people who only see in immigration a source of illegality, social conflict and violence — can contribute much to show the world a church without borders," Francis wrote.

Rev. Sean Carroll, executive director of Kino Border Initiative, said student were very excited and very touched after receiving the letter from Francis.

"They cross the border every day to serve meals to the migrants," said Carroll, who wrote the cover letter to accompany the teens' messages to the Pope. "I think receiving this letter affirms the work they are doing."

Lucy Howell, a board member of Kino Border Initiative, said the letter was share at a recent board member. "We're ecstatic," Howell said. "We're all touched."

Francis has made migration one of the priorities of his pontificate and will likely raise the issue when he visits the U.S. in September. On Thursday, U.S. officials confirmed he would address Congress on Sept. 24, the first pope to do so.
