When both of the major parties facilitate massive illegal migration, and refuse to secure the borders, and the GOP Establishment teams up with Obama to pass Obamatrade, at some point, more and more Americans will realize that our two party status quo, is as fake as professional wrestling.

Matt Mayer: Could a Third Party Rise in Congress?

Given the long history of Americas two-party system, the historical odds of the U.S. becoming a multi-party political system like most European countries werent high. Those odds, however, may be increasing, as the leadership in both parties confronts an increasingly hostile wing. Those wings find far deeper support among the activist voting base of the parties. Safe-seat redistricting has lead to the rise of these wings.

As far-fetched as it sounds, might America be headed towards a political system comprised of three, perhaps four political parties? Recent events create a possible foundation for such an outcome.

As Philip Bumo noted in the Washington Post, the membership in Congress has become less Republican and Democratic and more Republican, Conservative, Democratic, and Liberal. The establishment of each party focuses on the traditional political parties, while the TEA Party and Libertarian activists on the Right and the Occupy Wall St./Hollywood activists on the Left aim their energy and money at the more ideological members of the parties.

There is no mention of political parties in our Constitution, yet the Framers wrote about them elsewhere, often referring to them as “factions.” In 1780, John Adams wrote, “There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This in my opinion is to be dreaded as the greatest evil under our Constitution.” In the Federalist Papers, James Madison sought to convince readers that one of the main advantages of the Constitution, with its separation of powers, was “its tendency to break and control the violence of faction.” In a letter to a friend in 1789, Thomas Jefferson wrote, “If I could not go to heaven but with a party, I would not go there at all.” And in his Farewell Address, George Washington warned that political parties would be “potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people, and to usurp for themselves the reins of government.” The Framers considered factions “engines of corruption” that put the interests of selfish minorities ahead of the common good. Yet once the Constitution was ratified, political parties formed almost immediately.

I think organised political parties are both obsolete and a conflict of interest. They are at best a primitive form of banding or packaging ideas in the pre-industrialized world. Today I see them as a conflict of interest, they put themselves above the citizens interests.

I hope the trend continues until 100% of voters are (I)'s
