That's what we are: a Constitutional Republic.  We are not a democracy.

If any of you would like to know the differences in a Republic and Democracy form of Government, you might check out this link, it is pretty good.

I am much more amazed at how many have no idea what kind of government we have! Not just libs but conservatives as well as our politicians whining that this isn't how a democracy works. We are not a democracy, I was always taught we were a Constitutional Republic and the reasons make sense.

The Federalist Papers reveal that there was a great debate after the thirteen colonies became thirteen individual sovereign states. (fourteen for a brief while, with the creation of THE STATE OF FRANKLIN, which seceded from the state of Tennessee). The states knew they could not survive as individual states and the debate was whether to establish a Federal Government or the establish two separate "Confederacies of States (one northern and one southern)

In little more than half a century a myriad of problems relating to unfinished business, culminated in a Civil War, as the south, seceded from the Federal Republic and formed the "Southern Confederacy of States".  Much was resolved in this contest, yet much has remained unresolved to this date.

A lot of what we call Liberal and conservative one can see expressed in the views of Thomas Jefferson as opposed to John Adams.  This was long before  the creation of parties, yet their has been a debate about the proper role of government since long before the American Revolution.

1773-1783

Hero's

The date is Sep 3, 1783

Also Hero's, 1773? I said the official starting date. Not the 'unofficial'.

You will need a "Declaration of Independence" to make it official. Haven't you heard of the "Olive Branch" petition?

Me also. I have been saying that for awhile. From my personal experiences, I'd say at least 90% of Americans don't even know what kind of Gov we have.

I just recently asked a cafeteria worker at my school who she was voting for. She got all kind of pissy with me. "I don't discuss Religion and politics" ect... Geez.... Grin  It's like a 'sacred vote' for her. I could really careless who she was voting for. I was just trying to carry on a conversation. My state was going Trump anyway. So I asked her to prove a point. "What kind of Gov do we have  ? Whoops!  Blank look on her face.

So, the moral to the story is, we have people voting that don't even know "what kind of Gov we have".

As Thomas Jefferson said:  "Whenever the people are well informed, they can be trusted with their own Government"
This is part of that 'citizenry' problem I'm always talking about.

I knew it was 1783, but I didn't remember that the Treaty of Paris officially ended the Revolutionary War.

BTW, two of my 5th Great Grandfathers fought in the Revolutionary War: one of them was killed in the Battle of Brooklyn and the other fought in the Battles of Trenton and Princeton.
