You don't think it was a different Olive Branch?  I tend to think it was because when the moisture is gone they swriffle up and Trump would not accept a Defective Olive Branch.

Me also. I have been saying that for awhile. From my personal experiences, I'd say at least 90% of Americans don't even know what kind of Gov we have.

I just recently asked a cafeteria worker at my school who she was voting for. She got all kind of pissy with me. "I don't discuss Religion and politics" ect... Geez.... Grin  It's like a 'sacred vote' for her. I could really careless who she was voting for. I was just trying to carry on a conversation. My state was going Trump anyway. So I asked her to prove a point. "What kind of Gov do we have  ? Whoops!  Blank look on her face.

So, the moral to the story is, we have people voting that don't even know "what kind of Gov we have".

As Thomas Jefferson said:  "Whenever the people are well informed, they can be trusted with their own Government"
This is part of that 'citizenry' problem I'm always talking about.

Agree! and Saddened at the same time.

It just isn't the Form of Government they don't know, it is basic history.  They probably don't even learn history that we take for granted like why we celebrate July 4. == The schools have definitely failed us.  I graduated the year after the 1964 Civil Rights Bill was signed into law which merged the schools.  I didn't have to put up with all of the problems it created.  I am not saying it should not have been passed, just pointing out that due to the inferior education in separate school systems, it made the job very hard for the schools.  The system should have recovered by the 1970's, but it didn't and will not at this point.  We are doomed........

It's the schools everywhere today. My son graduated in 2011 my daughter in 2015. Even in the so called south here History is a thing of the past, my son is very smart when it comes to History and I have had confrontations with teachers for making fun of him, that was back in 8th grade. The teacher and I nearly came to blows over his FAR LEFT beliefs. My daughter has never had a real history class, it's just not taught other then then how we deport the poor mexicans and abuse the poor poor gays.
My BIGGEST mistake in life was not sending my kids to a Private Conservative School. Sad

Schools do not educate--they indoctrinate.  The results can be seen today very clearly in the 2-year old temper tantrums  rioting in the streets today because they didn't get their way.  This is what happens when you pickle children in marxist-communist ideology and instill in children that no matter what they achieve or don't achieve, they deserve an "award" just like those who achieve more.  It's the old egalitarian mantra of the French Revolution that is still alive and well and living in our public schools.  And, what few people realize, is that egalitarianism is just one of the rungs of the ladder leading to socialism and ultimately, communism.  So, all those pitiful children breaking windows, destroying property, spitting on police officers, beating up people for voting for Trump, and even calling upon someone to assassinate President-Elect Trump are the end results of years and years of this type of brainwashing.

Of course children don't know history!  They're not taught history.  They're taught revisionist history.  Students don't know the difference between a democracy, republic, communism, or anarchy.  Children in the 8th grade and even in high school can't read, can't spell without spell-chek, can't write a simple sentence properly, can't write a proper outline, can't write a proper paragraph, can't solve a simple mathematical problem without a calculator, can't find France on a map, and have absolutely no analytical skills in formulating a scientific hypothesis or how to go about developing scientific research based on a theory.  I have been saying these things for decades, but no one listened.  Everyone said I was nuts.  Well, here's my prediction come true.  American students are ranked nearly LAST when tested against other civilized countries of the world. We used to be on the top.  Now, we just tell kids they're ok and that they deserve congratulations--for doing nothing.   Cry

There is only one solution to this.  Completely shut down all public schools except maybe the charter schools.  Outlaw all teacher unions and federations.  Abolish the Dept. of Education in Washington, and do the same with local school boards.  Do away with all the departments of education in colleges and universities.  Once that is accomplished, develop education classes in colleges and universities which will produce teachers who are classically trained in the Socratic Method.  I am a classically trained teacher.  If we had these kinds of teachers in all of our schools, children would be educated as they were in the 19th century.  All teachers would have to be licensed as classically trained.  They would be interns for the first 3 years of teaching under a master classical teacher.  "Public" schools would be run either by churches or businesses.  Schools could not receive any monies from the government, state or federal. Schools would be run on donations and help from Churches and businesses.  Each school would be under the direction of a master classically educated teacher with at least 10 years experience.

There.  That's my solution.  It is the only way our children will grow up as upstanding citizens and patriots to our country.  The only other solution would be to homeschool.   Cool

Hero's

The date is Sep 3, 1783

Also Hero's, 1773? I said the official starting date. Not the 'unofficial'.

You will need a "Declaration of Independence" to make it official. Haven't you heard of the "Olive Branch" petition?

That everyone(most Americans) know the official date of the start of the American revolution July 4, 1776, but have no clue when arguably, the greatest event ever in the history of mankind officialy ended?

Anyone want to take a crack at it without looking it up? No cheating Bigmck
Wink Cheesy Grin

You gave the official start date...you "ASKED" for the official end date. So...taking into account your question, I gave the answer you asked for and thought it important to point out the actual start of it was the Boston Tea Party in 1773.

You'll have to pardon me for not recalling the exact month and day of the Treaty of Paris signing. You said not to look and I couldn't recall the month and day without looking.

The time is near at hand which must determine whether Americans are to be free men or slaves.  George Washington   Associate with men of good quality if you esteem your own reputation; for it is better to be alone than in bad company.  George Washington

Not officially however. That was a turning point definitely.

Agreed. However Bigmck, ultimately, it's the parents responsibility to teach them. That is what's missing. That's where it begins and the problem would be solved.

I think you and I will agree and even go "Debbie" that there are some real losers growing up from teens to take a responsible position in life.

Those are not as radical ideas as one might think. The economics of the matter would cause huge changes, but is that any excuse for the overhaul? Otherwise, we just continue our slide to the bottom.
I have seen top educators in the most respected journals come to the same conclusion: start over.
We fooled ourselves into believing the bottom ranking in education was as low as we could go. Today's Trump "protests" reveal an entirely different level of depravity, one, I think, part of the plan.
