Atheist forces school to drop Ten Commandments
By Todd Starnes

A Pennsylvania school district capitulated to the demands of a militant atheist who filed a federal lawsuit demanding the district remove a Ten Commandments monument erected on a public high school campus.

Schaub claimed the 6-foot stone monument erected outside Valley High School was a religious symbol and therefore was a violating of the U.S. Constitution.

Schaub also claimed the monument was offensive to her and her daughter. I can only imagine which commandment she found to be most offensive. Maybe it was the one about graven images.

Once again, an atheist uses 'being offended' as window dressing just to be spiteful and vindictive to make some point.

It just never stops.  But that's what happens when this country has so many petty people living in it.

There is an easy solution that should make everyone happy, Believers and Atheists alike. Simply add this caveat to every 10 Commandments monument:

"The First Amendment to the Bill of Rights allows you to violate some of the above Commandments, and the Government can do nothing to stop you."

A better solution would be to include the ten commandments in a law-giving context rather than in a religious context.  For example, in the Supreme Court building there is a frieze that depicts Moses holding the ten commandments.  The reason it has not been removed is because Moses is being depicted with other historical law-givers.

From left to right, the first person depicted in the above frieze is Menes, the first King of the first dynasty of ancient Egypt. He unified Upper and Lower Egypt under his rule and is one of the earliest recorded lawgivers.

The second person is Hammurabi, King of Babylon, and credited with founding the Babylonian Empire. He is known for the Code of Hammurabi, one of the earliest known legal codes.

The third individual being depicted in the Supreme Court frieze is Moses, lawgiver and judge of the Israelites.  Moses is depicted in the frieze holding two overlapping tablets, written in Hebrew. Commandments six through ten are partially visible.

In this context the ten commandments are not advocating any particular religion, but rather used to depict laws handed down throughout history.  Which is why they cannot be challenged under the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment.
