I only hope that this leads to action.

Quote:
Here’s how the CBS digital site is pitching the story in the run up to the first telecast on Sunday night: “Originally intended to help fill gaps in the high-tech workforce with highly skilled employees in situations where there aren’t enough Americans, the congressional framers of H-1B promised to protect U.S. jobs. Yet today, nearly every Silicon Valley tech company has brought in foreigners on H-1B visas and argue they can still use more because there are not enough Americans to fill those jobs. Morrison is mad. “There are a lot of qualified American workers, but companies will do better financially if they hire the foreigner worker,” he tells Whitaker.  “I’m outraged. The H-1B has been hijacked as the main highway to bring people from abroad and displace American workers.”

"One loophole H-1B companies are taking advantage of allows them to outsource jobs without even looking for Americans, if those jobs pay approximately $60,000 or higher.  Many hi-tech jobs typically pay double that.  Saving money on labor was never the bill’s intent.  Says Morrison, “It’s really a travesty that should never have been allowed to happen.”

Interesting, and the article is in a paper that appears to be an Indian publication.  I guess that's why they felt the need to point out that Trump's business have hired two dozen H1B visa holders since 2011.  They think people will only remember "Trump hired H1B visa holders."  They are wrong, I'll remember Quantity 24 over a period of 6 years.

Glad to see CBS is giving the Americans an outlet to voice what has happened to them.  I have two family members that have been screwed by the H1B visa program.  Yes, one worked for Disney.

I only seem to find news on HB1 Visas in the Indian Press.

I feel like we are all victims of HB1 visas. I don't work in tech so why would I care. I will tell you. In 2013 I was looking for a new home and I kept going to nice condo developments that were like "little india". Even 300K condos were smelly and beaten up. The real estate agent let me know... the corporations were buying the condos for the HB1 visa holders. It was just *that* cheap and they didn't want these slaves being distracted by the realities of living in the US.

Good condos would fly off the market at higher and higher prices. While americans, who couldn't afford that, would be forced to live in the worst slums.

Then there is the public transportation. I take a train line and on that train line is a condo development full of the HB visa holders. When we get to that stop... it fills up.    Now I would like to live in a development next to the train but I can't because the HB1 visa holders get these things while I get to live in a  slum and drive to the train station and pay for parking.

Silicon Valley--you remember them, 'cause they're the ones who fought Trump so hard--are the ones benefiting the most from these VISAs.

Imagine hiring an electrical engineer from India and paying him minimum wage?
I worked in San Jose for 32 years at Lockheed Martin.  They hired one person back in 2012.  None since.
But we had heard of the many outfits in SJ who DID hire them!

Sorry,
If you need smart people look in India.
We had to go to India to find micro solderers.

That hard to believe.
Are you paying the "going rate", or are you starting them at the bottom?  And I can't imagine intelligence plays a large part in soldering.  I also would guess you don't need a genius to learn to "micro-solder"--just someone with coordination and the ability to learn.  Nest-ce pas?   Wink

We ran an add in the papers coast to coast. These jobs entailed also reading a print. The pay was about thirty bucks an hour. I don't know what we paid the India crew.
We had several PCB's that had to be modified for our State project. They would sue our butt off if we were late with the cut even though they changed their mind on toys.

Back in the early days, we had a lot of women who hired on to do the soldering work on our printed boards (for missiles).  Pretty tedious work requiring a lot of concentration.
Don't know what they were paid--it was an hourly grade, of course, but I doubt it was anything like $30 an hour!  If I had to guess, I'd say probably about $17-18 an hour.

We also had to pay full expenses. (part time jobs)
We met the deadline and the state sued us anyway and won.
They took one mil off the bill. This was the first time I ever saw the state save money..... ? No more state bids... From my company.
