After all these years we still have a Democrat mess to clean up. If Harry #ss Truman had let General Douglas MacArthur cross the Yalu river this crap would be over with. China would have backed off with the threat of incineration, they were in no position. They had to capture some 30,000 troops and send them to Manchuria to service their trucks and mechanized. The Chinese were technologically illiterate at the time. (truck drivers & mechanics were prized captures who by the way were forgotten after the cease fire) The only real wild card would have been Stalin. Why we ever pulled our Nukes out of South Korea, I'll never understand, did South Korea want them removed? They were idiots if they did. Just venting.

You should brush up on your history. MacArthur's hubris in refusing to believe that Chinese forces were already operating in country and incompetence in having X Corps and 8th Army advance north in columns separated by a mountain range nearly led to disaster. It is only the hard fighting of the 1st Marine Division at Chosin that prevented the encirclement and destruction of the entire X Corps. Crossing the Yalu would have done nothing but increase the scale of the disaster.

True, it is a "what if". However, if the whole UN army was very nearly destroyed in the actual battle I don't see how having a river to their rear would have improved the situation.

We had all that and still nearly lost everything. MacArthur's overconfidence in the ability of air support to restrict Chinese movement was one of the root causes of our defeat. The Chinese forces took horrendous casualties to be sure, but make no mistake they defeated us.

Chinese warfare in the old days was placing about ten divisions on the line and yell charge.
We pulled back and just shelled them.

We nearly lost it all in the very beginning when everything had been pushed back south to the City of Pusan. That was hanging on by the fingernails. So would it have been better to settle it then when the Chinese infantry communicated by bugle and their troops marched barefoot in the snow or now after Bill Clinton gave them precise targeting technology for their ICBM's? With the Yalu river between us and them & the bridges down things would have been better. Hesitation and timidity have gotten more people killed. We are eventually going to have to fix that UN cluster screwup and it is really going to cost us now. The Chinese defeated us? Wow, I know some ex-Marines that would have a rather violent reaction to that.
