Russian nuclear-capable bombers fly near Japan, US officials say
By Lucas Tomlinson   FoxNews.com

For the first time in nearly three months, Russia flew nuclear-capable “Bear” bombers near Japan, Wednesday, the latest sign of increasing tensions in the region, two US officials tell Fox News.

The officials said three Russian Tu-95 Bear bombers took off from a base in eastern Russia flying in the Sea of Japan and remained in international airspace.

One U.S. official described the Russian bomber flight as “clearly meant to send a message.”

Seriously? BEARS? "first time in THREE (whole) months" since the last time they flew near Japan: "Nuclear capable bombers" - old, slow, not even remotely stealthy, propeller driven planes whose mission was long ago switched from bomber to ELINT for support of air combat. The headline, as well as the following story is sensationalism at its worst.

Russian bombers fly near Alaska; Air Force scrambles jets
By Lucas Tomlinson, Jennifer Griffin    FoxNews.com

A pair of Russian nuclear-capable bombers flew near Alaska Monday night, two U.S. officials told Fox News, coming as close as 100 miles from Kodiak Island -- the first time since President Trump took office that Moscow has sent bombers so close to the U.S.

The two Russian Tu-95 “Bear” bombers flew roughly 280 miles southwest of Elmendorf Air Force Base, within the Air Defense Identification Zone of the United States.

The U.S. Air Force scrambled two F-22 stealth fighter jets and an E-3 airborne early warning plane to intercept the Russian bombers.

Russia claims it can wipe out US Navy with single 'electronic bomb'
TheSun

Russia has claimed it can disable the entire US Navy in one fell swoop using powerful electronic signal jamming.

A news report from the country – where the media is essentially controlled by the state – said the technology could render planes, ships and missiles useless.

The newsreader says: “Today, our Russian Electronic Warfare (REW) troops can detect and neutralise any target from a ship’s system and a radar, to a satellite.”

Russian bombers again fly near Alaska
By Lucas Tomlinson   FoxNews.com

For the second consecutive night, Russia flew two long-range bombers off the coast of Alaska on Tuesday, this time coming within 36 miles of the mainland while flying north of the Aleutian Islands, two U.S. officials told Fox News.

The two nuclear-capable Tu-95H bombers were spotted by U.S. military radar at 5 p.m. local time.

Unlike a similar incident Monday night, this time the U.S. Air Force did not scramble any fighter jets.

Not sure what the point of all this is.  I believe it is not illegal
to fly outside of 12 miles of the coast?  And how often have our
fighter planes gone 'near' other countries' coasts just outside of 12 miles?

More Russian spy planes, bombers approach Alaskan airspace
By Lucas Tomlinson     FoxNews.com

Russian Bear bombers and spy planes buzzed Alaskan airspace the past two nights in a repeat of incidents earlier this week, two U.S. officials told Fox News on Friday.

Wednesday night a pair of Russian spy planes IL-38s flew near the Aleutian Islands in the Bering Sea staying in the U.S. Air Defense Zone for a few hours before departing.

What a fun movie that was!  Too bad they didn't buy some surplus migs for the movie, instead of using the old F-5's.

It was made back in the 80's, before the fall of the Soviet Union, so no Migs to be had.

I remember getting a copy of it free with my first VCR.
