Ah, yes, another injured customer.  Her feelings were hurt, so she says.  If I got money every time something in life offended me, I would be richer than President Trump, or BHO for that matter.

Just more rising costs for the customers of Safeway - but she's not in it for the money.  And I don't agree with comments that said the manager was "threatening her" when he advised her to take the money.

The poor cashier probably just slipped into autopilot after helping the two dozen or so welfare recipients before her.

Lily, unlike the United Airline story, you'll get some supporters with this one.

The angry black woman has a serious cultural bias problem of her own.  Not one that is specifically race related.  She obviously never worked a cash register before.  If she had, she would have known why the question was asked.  When a person pays with a Debit or Credit card, the cashier has to hit a button on the machine to direct the transaction through the proper system.  With EBT cards, it is a different card, and different system.  Additionally, I can almost guarantee you that this woman waited until after the groceries were all scanned and totaled up to reach in her purse/wallet to get her card.  This means that everyone is waiting for this woman to get her act together.  If the cashier assumes that she is using a debit or credit card, and she whips out an EBT card then the process will fail, and will cause more delays.  Knowing this, the cashier asks whether she will be using her EBT card.  This was not racial profiling.  It was an attempt to expedite the process during a busy period.

This woman was offered $500 for getting her feeling hurt, and she turned it down.  I hope she never gets a penny.  I would also like to see Albertson's get a restraining order keeping her from shopping at any of their stores.  Maybe then she will learn to be humble.

People today are so wrapped up in themselves that they take offense when none was intended. I hope she loses big time and Safeway/Albertsons doesn't cave in any more than they already have.

Maybe it was that can of malt liquor that confused the cashier.

My daughter works in a grocery store.  At least until the end of the month when she resigns.  She can't do it anymore.

They are way too busy to be "racial profiling."  And you are correct that they have to use a different key or something to take various forms of payment.  She tells me the corporate instruction is to always make a customer happy.  So their offer of $500 was just to try to defuse her anger, nothing else.

In the overly sensitive, racially charged (thanks BHO), social media, etc. environment, I can't guess how this will go.

If we all were paid off every time we were upset, wow, we'd all be rich.

I am sure we all have been behind that person in line that just takes forever.  I was in a hurry and the lady in front of me was arguing about if something was on sale.  The cashier said she owed $1.37 more and she has the weekly "Sales Newspaper" going through it to prove her point.  After 4 or 5 minutes I jumped in.  I say, "OK, this is over.  Let's move it along." i hand the clerk $1.37.  The lady just stares at me. I say to her, "You are through, lets go, move it on".  It was worth every penny to say that.   Grin
