I have a CC permit but Kansas just recently went to legal open carry and CCP not required.

I personally like carrying concealed. Unless someone is being threatened or harmed, I will leave it in my holster.

I carry it for personal protection.

If I am in a convenience store and it is robbed I am staying out of the way unless someone is about to be shot or they turn on innocent bystanders.

Once you pull that weapon, your life will change drastically.

...you're in a store being robbed, and you dont do anything?  How do you know the store clerk, who has a gun pointed at him/her, isn't about to be shot? ..  by the time they "turn on innocent bystanders" which includes YOU, it's too late.   It aint like back in the day, when they just took your stuff and then ran off, today they take you stuff and then they KILL you.  If I stumble into an Armed Robbery in Progress, I'm not going to wait around and see what happens next.

Yes, your life will "change"--and so will the robbers if you're fast enough.
My method would be, (if possible) take cover, find a comfortable brace to shoot from, yell "freeze" and the instant he turned towards me, I'd kill the sucker!"   Grin

Then, of course, there's real life, rather than fantasy! Roll Eyes

Concealed is the element of surprise. Sometimes it may be good just being very observant and accurate witness. Other times an accurate shooter able to articulate why you had to use deadly force. Shoot till the threat goes down if you ever have to use your gun in defense of yourself or someone else. Be vigilant.

Just like me in Illinois, you wouldn't know about that in San Francisco, would you?

I was just going to interject something here about that. Here in VA we can all open carry.

To conceal you have to get a permit. To get the permit you have to present to the Commonwealth that a certified weapons instructor trained you on the law about concealing a weapon, we take a written test, and we take a practical in the field at the range. You have to show some ability to be able to shoot at a target at least.

I do like the fact that people in VA have to go thru the numbers to get the permit as it does show some competence, but I also get my panties in a wad because we have to do anything  period, to open or conceal. there is no permit needed in the Constitution. It's all about control, Big Brother and money making.

I lived in the city in NO Va for a few decades and Some people carry and I would bet money most don't. Except the criminals and cops. Here in the Blue Ridge Mountains where I've been for a  few years now I would bet money most carry, concealed. I have seen open carry here more in 4 years than 3 decades in the north of VA.
We've got weapons/gun stores all over and personal  and private ranges all over the place.  Many ranges set up on people's property. I just don't want to go thru the expense of putting a range in and I belong to the NRA. The NRA range (and HQ) is  not far (in a car) from here. We usually go to a gun store a few miles from here which is free, but you have to use their ammo, which isn't.

I am former military and I have known some nutballs in the service. I am sure they can shoot straight but I am not for carte blanc on anyone cause they served.

When I worked at the PX, every time there was an active shooter incident, we had to go through the Dept. of Homeland Security's Active Shooter Response Training.

https://emilms.fema.gov/IS907/curriculum/1.html

To sum it up, their advice was if someone comes in shooting, we were to hoist our skirts an' run screaming like 9 year old girls.

Me? I always said that nothing stops an active shooter faster than a 258 grain .45 cal. hollowpoint exiting his left temple.

The only controls I want on my guns are the ones I operate by myself, such as safety, magazine release, bolt or slide, optics an' trigger. Any others are unnecessary.

Texas became an Open Carry on Jan 1.  I figured there would be a lot of people to take advantage of that.  I went out to get a haircut on Jan 1 and there was a guy in the barber chair with his gun on.  That is the only Open Carry I have seen.
