Above my pay grade buttt NO screening ??

Screening is fine if a logical person does the screening.  Remember when Obama wanted to stop people from purchasing a gun if they were on the No Fly List?  They just put anyone on that list and they can't buy a gun.  I prefer no screening.

Use existing laws to go after law breakers and enforce with vigor. I give free public gun safety classes per our dept. We hash over these very issues. I challenge anyone in the class to tell me when one of the guns I demo with jumps up to harm anyone in the class.

I don't stop for animals but I will stop for tools.

We still need screening . FT Hood comes to mind .

I agree.  I live in New York State where it is difficult to obtain a conceal/carry permit, but not impossible.  I have one.  I think New York is far to restrictive in the regulations, however I know that their are many people who ought never be allowed to posses a handgun.  The issue is one of "reasonableness" just as it is for the justification of one's use of deadly physical force!  New York State is far too restrictive and I am part of efforts to remedy this through our elections.

Define "screening."  Criminal background check?  Fine, as then we're talking about limiting a person whose rights have been rightfully curtailed through the full procedure of due process: arrested, arraigned, convicted, sentenced.

Any other kind of "screening" - nope. To many chances for nanny state to fiddle with who passes their screening under what circumstances.

I have an idea Wally.  We will let Bill de Blasio be the person who decides for NY state.  What do you think of screening now?  Wink

But shouldn't we go for what is realistic?  I don't see a day that no screening will be possible.

Cars kill more people.  They should be banned, maybe?

Along with pressure cookers, anything that can be used as "schrapnel," cell phones can detonate, knives, trucks, shoes, etc.

Good point!  I think the GOP should start switching the term Gun Violence to People Violence where ever it is used!

Or they should call car accidents "automobile violence" and alcohol related deaths "alcohol violence". Makes as much sense.
