Minnesota officer acquitted in shooting of motorist Philando Castile
AP

ST. PAUL, Minn. --
A Minnesota police officer was acquitted of manslaughter Friday in the fatal shooting of a black motorist who had informed the officer seconds earlier that he was carrying a gun.

Jeronimo Yanez was also cleared of two lesser charges in the July traffic stop in a St. Paul suburb. Yanez testified that Philando Castile was pulling his gun out of his pocket despite his commands not to do so. The defense also argued Castile was high on marijuana and said that affected his actions.

I don't think there has been a conviction in any of these cases.

It seems to be very difficult to get convictions in officer involved shootings.

There's a case in Chicago that might break that streak.  A young man named Laquan McDonald (I think) was walking and shot 16 times by Chicago Police officer.   I think he was walking away from the officer.  However, if an officer thinks HE may not be in danger, but the suspect may be a danger to OTHERS, he may still be allowed to do so.  Not sure of this officer's defense.  Rahm got in a lot of trouble not releasing videos for a long time.

I don't like seeing them go after police when NO ONE knows what's in their mind at that split second.

I thought for sure the police officer who was video taped shooting a perp running away from him was going to get convicted. Apparently the jury was given some information that the msm didn't want to report on (surprise!). A jury member refused to be bullied into a guilty vote and the officer was able to avoid conviction. I never heard anything more on if the DA decided to go through with a second trial. This was in South Carolina I believe.

This one looks bad.  I think the issue was 16 shots, at least in people's minds.  McDonald had a knife and was slashing tires, I believe.  They tried a couple different ways to apprehend him, then shot him.

Apparently there is a discrepancy in what witness officers said.  Rahm waited a long time to release the video, and you cannot hear anything on it.

I don't think police go out wanting to kill someone.  Guess I have to wait for all the facts to know what to think.  Rest of the country might hear about it when it goes to trial.

One of the things stressed in CAtoonia is, "..keep your hands in sight and tell the officer at the very first, you are carrying a weapon and you have a license.
He may want to take you out of the car and search you, but at least you'll still be alive.

On the other hand, if he gets fresh, pull your heater and let him have it!  Grin Grin  (No, no, you idiot!  Don't GIVE it to him!)

Your FINAL choice is to pull y'er gat and plug him when he walks up to the window!   Angry Grin  (WHAT??  No, no, don't listen to me!  I'M an idiot!)   Grin Grin

NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick compared police officers to fugitive slave patrolmen after a Minnesota officer was acquitted in the shooting death of a black motorist.

Kaepernick tweeted his displeasure with the verdict, with a graphic reading "You can't ignore your history - always remember who they are."

Between the lines, a police badge is shown side-by-side with a "fugitive slave patrol" badge.

It may look bad but he had our protection as his first priority.
