I agree most of the negative posts here, although when I was 18 I was totally into her,  read all her books and loved them.

So how do you feel about Trump saying she was his favorite writer?

I believe it and love the fact. We need hard azzed leaders.

Why aren't we investigating the President and staff that held office while the supposed Russian interference occurred?

Look on the bright side - he could have been trendy and picked a transgender, age-fluid, sexual children's book author who donates all the proceeds to pedophiles.

It's definitely a slow starter, but after page 200 the rest of the 800 pages just fly.  Grin

I've found that in my more than 70 years of reading books if the book doesn't grab my interest in the first 50-100 pages, it isn't worth reading. I had the same problem when I tried to read books by Dean Koontz.

You and every other 18 yo!!  Grin  Teenagers love to dream about being "independent" doncha' know?  Wink
Never quite works out that way, does it?

As for Trump, I suspect most multi-multi-fancy-shmancy millionaires are almost forced to be independent, or other people con them out of everything!  Grin

Heh,heh!  Absolutely right!  Anybody that's ever tried to write has discovered if you don't grab 'em in the first few pages, they move on to the next author!
Frankly, the older I get the more I appreciate good ole' westerns.  My favorite western writer Louis L'Amour understood and never failed to catch your interest.
I've read all my life.  Now that I'm "ancient", I read whenever I'm not involved in boozing, or computering!  Wink
(Wait!  That's a lie!  I read WHILE I'm boozing!)  Grin

I seem to be under a self induced curse. If I start a book, I have to finish it. There have been many books I practically celebrate getting to the last page, but I still just had to finish them. I have "given up" on books, put them down for a few weeks or even a couple months, only to go back and finish them, eventually.

Don't ask me why. I don't understand it myself. Some kind of OCD, I guess.

That's exactly it.  Reading Ayn Rand was like some teenage rite of passage back then.  I don't think she is as  popular today, and.  teenagers don't read thousand page books today.

I don't remember ever hearing of Ayn Rand until the 1960s or 1970s when I was 30-40 years old.

Grin I'm a "sympathizer".  I've waded through more pure crap than I care to admit, just to finish the book.

Then I complain to my wife about and she always sez the same thing:  "If you didn't like it, why'd you finish reading it?"

Um, damned if I know!  shake-head-sad
Guess I just wanted to see if it was bad, all the way through!
(--and it always IS!)  Grin

Have to agree with your wife.  Cool  A book grabs me in the first chapter or I'm done.  Never read any of her stuff.  Heck I thought she was a he.  Grin Grin
