Well, I read that the FBI found two "bump stocks" in the shooter's arsenal. If that's what he used for automatic fire, then I suggest the Republicans better pass legislation to ban them, because if they don't they will be on the losing side of public sentiment, IMO.

I'm all for the 2nd Amendment and have been an NRA member for 30+ years, but I feel owning, in essence, a machine gun is beyond what one reasonably needs in a gun(s) to protect themselves.

It's the Bill of Rights, not the Bill of 'Needs'.

As an NRA Life member, all I can say is that we're doomed if gun ownership is ever to be based on what one "reasonably needs".

If its a federal law to permit carry then that we can talk about. Anything else unacceptable...

There already is a "federal law" for that. It's called the 2nd amendment. The problem with registering is that the feds will have a database of all gun owners when they decide to confiscate your guns.

Bumpstock...

Have any of you tried using a bumpstock? I have, and they are unreliable as hell. Besides, anyone who has shot full auto knows they are good in close quarters, but useless for any distance unless they are anchored, even then it's spray and pray...

My hope is that any "discussion" will be governed by logic and reason. Right now everyone is emotional about this and emotion is never a good basis for a legal or constitutionally sound discussion.

And to think bump stocks are legal and approved by ATF. After the Las Vegas massacre, I don't think bump stocks will be legal for too much longer (if in fact that is what the shooter used).

Anyone who starts with "I fully support the 2nd Amendment" then follows with "but there is no NEED for (insert whichever weapon the speaker wants to ban here)..." is simply demonstrating their lack of understanding of the primary purpose of the 2nd Amendment. Certainly, self-defense is a factor. But defense from what and against whom?

Remember, the official beginning of the American Revolution was a battle started over British soldiers marching into town in order to confiscate their firearms.

Talking about enacting this law or that law is wasted breath.  The gunman broke who knows how many laws in doing what he did.  Even if he just had a semi-auto, he could have still done a lot of damage.  Gun Laws are not the answer.   I don't know what is, but more Laws are not.

The demoncraps real agenda is to disarm the American public, and they use every crisis they can to achieve that goal.  Why do they want to disarm us?  One reason, a complete fear of the American people.  They know the day is fast approaching that our guns will be turned on them, and that was/is one of the main reasons for the 2nd amendment.

Don't twist my words, boy! You better direct quote me or shut your friggin pie hole. I never said the words (but there is no need for...) you just attributed to me. Are you a conservative or a liberal? Get your facts straight.

I still think the motive will come down to politics.

..... the banning of conversion kits may be discussed, I don't even think the NRA would oppose that.
