The Earth is one planet in millions in the Universe.  It would seem to me that the odds would favor there being life somewhere else besides Earth.  As the theory of them being too far away and could not get here,  is OUR THEORY.  It hasn't even been a hundred years since the Wright Brothers.  There are so many things out there that have not even been considered by our scientists.  I think if we ARE Alone, would be more surprising than if we ARE NOT.

Also, what about the so called alien ships that crash. Ridiculous. They travel thousands of light years or more to earth and then crash.....Not believable...

Yes, I recall reading accounts of the Roswell UFO crash incident where the space craft used by the humanoid-like aliens were made of some metal-like material far stronger than anything known to man (could not be penetrated with drills, cut with a saw, etc.) -- yet the entire space craft was demolished and mangled! Yet, the soft tissued bodies of the aliens were recovered intact (some dead and some still living) and transported to Wright Patterson Air Force for inspection and captivity!

Beam me up, Scotty!

Yes, if one plays the odds that is sound thinking, but I'm afraid is not scientific.  If odds were scientific method then we should play the lotto with all our pay check.  BTW, theory has it there are billions of planets that exist in our galaxy alone.  In billions of galaxies, wow, such a deal -- now the lotto odds equate.

It would be nice of those UFO'ologists would be more like police detectives instead of dreamers.   Tongue

And then there are those people that believe those straight lines all over the place in Nazca, Peru, are runways that were used by ancient ET aliens!

Right! Aliens with technology for inter planetary, intra galaxy space travel in a vacuum -- and they would need a runway (for vehicle crafts dependent on air for lift) to land on!

I was wondering that even if we had the technology to travel near the speed of light, what would be the reasonable G-force acceleration a human could comfortably withstand to accelerate from 0 MPH to the speed of light -- and how long would it take  to reach such speed? I know the human body couldn't withstand too high a G force for too long a duration. I think a human would have to reach near speed of light speeds incrementally, accelerating for minutes, perhaps an hour -- then coast to let the body (heart, internal organs, etc.) stabilize -- then accelerate again, etc.

I figure acceleration at 1 G (32 feet/sec/sec) would be tolerable for a human (although maybe not for days or even hours).

At that rate of acceleration, how long would it take to reach near the speed of light? I guess I can figure it out on my cell phone calculator.

But in any event, I believe accelerating up to a near speed of light  terminal speed would be a big problem for the human body.

You point out one of the limiting factors in interstellar travel; that is if humans go then we must preserve our natural environment, such as a reasonable G-force and in theory that would take a year or more acceleration to reach ‘C’ then after the required time to travel, then to decelerate at a reasonable G-force, more time wasted, to reach another star system.

Then, as scientists we must use our method and that necessitates some disbelief in Einstein’s time dilation theorem, and/or that ‘C” is actually the limit.  I have read all kinds of reasonable and hair brained ideas about it and some are interesting.

However, given our propensity to screw up things and waste all our time and money on government projects, it will be a stretch if we even return to the Moon in the next century – so a vast undertaking of reaching the speed of ‘C’ will take us into the next collapse and rebirth of the Big Bang!

Also, consider that space is not exactly empty and at such speeds even a particle or two every trillion miles will impede our travel.

Anything is possible; just look at how the poles predicted the utter failure of Trump to win the election Smiley

Several years ago, I was one of the witnesses of the UFO over
the Hudson Valley.  I pulled off the road on the Taconic Parkway
with other drivers.  It was rumored to be glide plane hoaxters but
what I saw did not appear to be that.  It was V shaped, silent and flying low.  It was aired on Unsolved Mysteries.

So you just dismiss the possibility as Not Scientific and that is the end of it?
