Thank you all for your stories. This has been the most difficult Christmas I have ever spent, but reading the tales of others made it a little more bearable.

We decided a few years ago to not watch Fox or any news channel while she is here, nor to discuss politics, weather or anything else. Unfortunately, it has not made a difference.

I took her to the airport this morning.  Nobody is sorry, I have to say.

I have to ask....when you left her at the airport, did she manage to offer you a 'good bye' or a 'thank you'?

Same goes with my family... Husband and I are Trump Supporters and Son and girlfriend just got out of college and have not been indoctrinated into the "real world" yet.... give them a few years and hopefully they will see the light !

But I did receive this in my email over the holidays and want to share... thought it was appropriate Smiley

To Democrat Friends:

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all.
I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2018, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only "America" in the Western Hemisphere. Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishes.

To Republican Friends:

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

For Dem's they left out the all inclusive: Seasons Bests!

It is truly sad how progs create for themselves a view of the world (and especially how the world SHOULD be) that is so distorted from reality it just brings them pain and frustration. Yet they are so convinced their view is the "correct" one, they will ostracize all who do not share their delusions, including family.

They wallow in their self created misery, and expect everyone around to sympathize and agree with every lie based conclusion of why their world is not the rosy picture of perfection promised them by their political masters.

Actually no. But I got out of the car, lifted her suitcase out, told her I wanted a hug and that I loved her and got in the car and left. She was staring at me when I left. That's all I could do.

Here's day 7 of Christmas with a liberal (she goes home tomorrow).  She is still permanently attached to her I-pad. She no longer converses with us at all.  She has yet to pick up a glass or plate after dinner, let alone help anybody cook. Tonight she refused to eat the chicken/green chile enchiladas, said she just felt she should not eat (after I asked her twice if she was going to eat or if I should just go ahead and put the food up).  In her defense...she lives alone and really doesn't socialize (except apparently with her I-pad).  There are four people who live here, including a noisy 12 year old and it's very cold (she is from Arizona).  She is unable to control the TV, room temperature or noise level. She is unable to control the rest of us and it is clear we annoy her.  I'm just counting the hours.............She is having knee surgery next month and I am supposed to go babysit her for a week. Thinking that probably won't happen because she won't let me in the house. She has refused to discuss that as well.   This grieves me deeply...she is my only living sister and we used to be so close. It is like having a stranger in the house. I think she's communing with her Daily Kos family online.

That is so sad. My family is more democrat I'm almost sure but we don't really talk about politics at all. Family should be family and the other stuff can wait until you go back to your regular lives. I guess I'm very fortunate in this regard. I feel for ya MoGal...

I have a large family.

I am probably what you might call a hard core, America first, war monger, red neck conservative who would rather eat cow manure than vote for a democrat.

Everybody in my family knows that about me.  I don't care whether they like it or not.

I love most of my family, have done and will do what I can to help them if they truly need me, but I will not quietly suffer their stupidity.  If they don't agree with me, they are a$$holes, plain and simple.

In my hierarchy of human need, country comes before family.  Without country, there would be no one left to protect my family.  If a member of my family stands against me, he stands against my country.  No, not on my watch.

Thankfully, the majority of my family, are between leaning conservative and full blown constitutional conservative. (Though I am probably the farthest "right.") I would even describe my parents as "leaning conservative", though they both are self-proclaimed democrats. They register as independent, though, and have voted republican a significant percentage of the time. They were and are big Reagan fans.

Anyway, family is a huge, huge part of a stable society. Of note is the manner the left has attacked family values head on, with supporting one parent families, even ENCOURAGING them (unofficially, of course) to have extra kids for the aded freebies they bring. They have attacked, quite successfully, marriage itself, the manner children are raised, stamped out the "old fashioned" ideals that family took care of family, all but eliminating those families where the older, non-working generation lived with one of their children's families, with other sibblings chipping in as necessary for unusual expenses. Today we cram them into county, or private, retirement homes on fixed incomes and state health insurance. Many receive less than 1 visitor per month. Some, none at all. The percentage of children raised from infancy to full adulthood in a single traditional family setting has dropped so low, the progs are actually labeling it as a symptom of "white privilege."

And they socialists even admit to these being deliberate attack, specifically designed to bring down the family as the primary social unit of society. And then the next step (already happing, but the very earliest stage) is to make the State the defacto parents of all youth, since, of course, the beat-down parents and rag-tag remnants of traditional marriage, are no longer up to the job.

Our parents were Democrats because they were poor.  They were not "today's Democrat", in any way.  My oldest sister, now deceased, and I strayed from the fold early on, but it was never a big deal. We used to have discussions over the dinner table that never got out of hand, but were rather just an exchange of ideas. Nobody got offended and nobody got mad.  My next oldest sister is the problem child; spent a lifetime in education, twice divorced and no children. She retired at 55 and did a lot of volunteer work in archaeology, doing some field work, but spending a lot of time on the policy end.  She doesn't do much of that anymore (nearly 20 years later), but lives 2,000 miles from the rest of the family. Looks like she spends a lot of time online re-inforcing what she already thinks. She hates capitalism (my husband and I each own and operate a small business) and her mantra is always greed and tax evasion. If you want to know where she stands on anything you can read the Daily Kos or Think Progress. I love current events, but politics should never come before family, IMHO.
