I would recommend charging more for junk mail and bulk mail and trying to reach a year end settlement of just breaking even.

Your not going to make up 2 billion by raising 1st class mail.

Losing two billion a year is not acceptable.

Have you seen the cost list for the Post Master General's office remodel every year?

I like my USPS people, so I'll abstain from criticism

UPS on the other hand, I don't know how individuals can stomach the shipping costs these days. I have no idea how companies can send me such large packages for free. And yes, that includes selling me the product cheaper than elsewhere. It's good for the shopper, but something has to give. I cringe at the thought of individuals offsetting the cost. Someday the fairytale will end.

Why aren't we investigating the President and staff that held office while the supposed Russian interference occurred?

P.O. here isn't worth a nickle. They have 6 windows/registers. When one opens the other closes and down the line. When they are done with EACH customer they close which takes 3-4 minutes and walk behind a wall, the next one opens which takes 2-4 minutes. So there's rarely ever more than 1-2 people working at one time.
Oh the line is ALWAYS out the door about 12-15 people deep.

For larger mail order/internet order companies, their shipping costs are a contracted cost with the shipping companies. They shell out $X per month, no matter what they ship. That kind of deal, of course, saves the shipper a lot, thereby allowing them to inch up their prices a couple percent and offer "free" shipping.

But the shipping companies make out on these contracts, also. All they have to do is go in and latch onto trailers at the warehouses and off they go. Most of the sorting and such is done at the warehouse. So UPS, FedEx, or USPS only worry about sorting at the local distribution level, which cuts their labor costs by about 2/3.

As such, its a win/win/win for the retain companies and the shipping companies, AND for the consumer, who, while paying a couple percent more on the price tag for "free shipping", still often gets what they want cheaper than shopping at the equivalent box store.

Sadly, it's not so good for small businesses in the retail market. OTOH, there are so many niche markets for small businesses to fill, they very much still have their place.
