They both are equally dangerous.  We have enough problems without making one more legal.

Nope....

What an embarrassment being in the same country.
I'm hoping that they pass the ban on gasoline cars.
Then maybe their electric cars won't make it back east.
Our newspaper headlines was a pot plant over Washington, Oregon and California. They are so happy. I wonder where my pot smoking friend is. Poor ole Evil Spirit (He is not an Indian). The last time I saw him he said he has a diamond and was going to shove it where the sun don't shine and sneak across the border? Old drunks just stagger.

.....cause now you got drunks and pot heads behind the wheel. Roll Eyes

When charged with "Driving While Impaired" it doesn't matter what substance made them impaired.  If they get stoned and get behind the wheel, they will go to jail just as quickly as any drunk would under the same circumstances.  Nothing has really changed in that regard.  It was illegal to drive while impaired before California made marijuana legal, and it is still illegal to drive while impaired.

Marijuana was decriminalized in Alaska in 1975, and then legalized in 2016.

Legalization makes absolutely no sense, except for the corrupt and greedy.  It is like imposing a tax on dandelions or crab grass.  Decriminalization is the only sane solution, and it worked in Alaska for 41 years before they stupidly legalized marijuana.  Get the government out of the business of taxing weeds.

What's the saying? As California goes -- so goes the rest of the country.

It's like state lotteries five decades or so ago. Once one state started one and revenue flowed into the state coffers (much from non residents from adjoining states), one by one other states started their own state lottery to prevent in-state consumer dollars being lost to other states.

California wants in on the tax revenue legalized pot will bring in. A big slice will most likely come from out of state users, tourists, etc. I see other states now legalizing pot so as to compete for the pot consumer's dollars.

But, while these states take in extra tax revenue, that only means that pot consumers will have less money to spend elsewhere on consumer goods and services they used to spend on, as some of that discretionary money is going to used pay for inordinate taxes on the pot (be they special embedded taxes and/or higher sales tax). So, in the long run, I'm not sure how much pot sales are going to boost California's economic situation. That is, if one is spending their money on pot, they're not spending it on something else.

Interestingly, that is also how marijuana became illegal in the first place.  It began in California in the mid-1910s, and by 1928 the rest of the 47 States had followed suit.  Congress created the Bureau of Narcotics in 1928, but marijuana was not made illegal at the federal level until 1956.  Before that it was considered a "controlled substance" and grown legally only under federal permit (which happened between 1941 and 1945 in North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Ohio after the Japanese invaded Malaysia and cut off our hemp supply).

As I said, not much will change except maybe some of the criminal element will be reduced.
