All I can say is, I'm sure glad I'm not moving to one of the states you guys live in.  It would be shocking to find out that I was unwelcome as an American in my own country.

The article posted, if you read carefully, had the lady in question stating she was leaving because she didn't like the politics or the sanctuary city.
Sounds pretty Republican, to me.
You people have to get over the idea that ALL Californians are liberal idiots.
It's true the liberals rule the roost here, but just think back to when the SAME liberals elected Obama---twice!
Ask yourself how your state voted in those elections and how much effect YOUR vote had!

The fact that I'm republican in CA, doesn't mean I entertain "liberal" ideas.  I entertain ANY idea that might mean improvement for the country, while recognizing most liberal ideas run from stupid, to idiotic.

This is not NEW news.  Californians have been deserting the state for years.  It's simply stronger now than before, because our dumbo guv slapped a new gas tax on us and is trying to steal the Sacramento River from the North, to fill the pools of the desert South.

So cut us some slack, gang! Wink

There's a sign at the Oregon border that sez: "Welcome to Oregon, now go home..."

They should do that in CA - except most of the idiots that move here can't read...

Shocking!  I thought we in Illinois were up for this prize.

http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2018/02/08/san-francisco-bay-area-mass-exodus-r...

Hmmm, liberal Democrat rule, bad financial shape, overtaxed, sanctuary city, etc.

Say it ain't so.

Lily003.  Shocked

Darn,  bet a bunch are coming here to Oregon.  If I was younger and didn’t have family here I’d move to Idaho or Wyoming.

Oregon and Washington are beautiful states.
They ought to be, it rains all the time up there.  Wink Grin

When I was working, I traveled fairly often.  One summer I spent 2 months in Seattle.  The hottest day high was 64 degrees and some nitwit radio announcer complained because it was "too hot"!
I almost died laughing!

Most of the "exodus" is people retiring or simply can't afford the ever increasing prices (for everything, not just gas).  Regardless of what you're hearing rental inventories and houses For Sale are still low.
How long will this last, no idea, but it will eventually end.  Part of what's driving this (rentals / for sale) is TARP money.  The Bay Area was flooded with TARP money about 6-8 years ago.  Those projects are still going on; but!, that money will eventually dry up.

No doubt it's those that are moving but how do you stop that? You can't restrict people's freedom to relocate as much as we would like to.

If states had the level of sovereignty as in the past, they would remain conservative because their laws would stand - offending the liberal way of life.

No push back here but sadly that is not the case any longer.

From the link on the OP:

Quote:
Carole Dabak spent 40 years living in San Jose and now she’s part of the mass exodus that is showing no signs of slowing down.

.........................

Dabak cites crowding, crime and politics as the reasons for her own exodus.

“We don’t like it here anymore. You know, we don’t like this sanctuary state status and just the politics here,” she said.

She plans to sell her home for about $1 million, buy a much larger place near Nashville for less than half that and retire closer to family and friends.

I'm new here so I hope my opinion is welcome!

I currently live in the Bay Area. Moved here a year ago for career stuff.

None of this really surprises me. The Bay Area is by far the least friendly place I have ever spent time, from New England where I grew up, to the South, to LA and Utah and OC and Wyoming. I have yet to meet one nice, friendly person who wanted to have a conversation and smiled and didn't sneer at me. Other than people at my church out here.

I don't even make eye contact with people anymore; they all just glare at you, or stare at their phones.

It sucks. Diversity is a lie; I see people of all races and genders and whatnot here, which is totally fine. Except nobody talks to each other, so it doesn't really matter. Everybody just hates everybody else.

Can't wait to get out and go somewhere else. At this point, even southern California, where I spent a year before coming here, seems friendly and chill.

If it weren't for my chosen career as a filmmaker/playwright, which is full of liberals and losers, I would pack up and move to Montana or Idaho or something. When I'm not working, I love to be in the mountains.

But in terms of opportunity, recreation, landscape, weather, jobs and arts scene, I just can't think of anywhere like California. It depresses me how terrible this place is now. It's so beautiful.

Anyway, that's my sob story. Hope to have some good conversatons with like-minded people on this forum.
