Firearms maker Remington Outdoor Co. sought bankruptcy protection Sunday, in the face of a heavy debt load, falling sales and lawsuits tied to the Sandy Hook school shooting.

I seriously hate to see Remington go out of business, they made some of the best guns in US history for a hundred plus years.  I have a beautiful 1980s made 22 caliber pump Fieldmaster 572 BDL pump rifle, beautiful checkering andf finish on the wood stocks, perfect finish and perfect function.  bought it new in the 80s and never had an issue with it.  Fun rifle, beautiful and looks brand new still, in it's home in the gun safe.   Undecided

Winchester went down years ago.  Who is next?  Ruger, Savage, Henry, Weatherby, Armalite, etc.?

This is old news and not the first time. Been in the news for months now. When they bought Marlin things declined for a few yr or so and sales crashed but the quality is as good as ever now. I 2 yrs ago bought a SS 45-70 Lever and it's as good as any other Marlin I own.
Winchesters are better then ever.

The difference is that Winchester is now owned by FN Herstal.  So, the production is done at one of FN's factories, or in the case of the lever-action guns at Mirouku in Japan.
