IMO, the ME could care less if the U.S. was destroyed.

We are in the middle-east because of Public Law 107-40.  Enacted into law on September 18, 2001, the overwhelming majority in Congress voted to authorize the use of military force in what has commonly been referred to as "The War on Terror."

The law is effectively a blank check for any President to use military force "against those nations, organizations, or persons" the President deems to be a terrorist threat.  As long as the law remains in effect we will continue to be at war with any anyone any President deems to be a threat.

This is not how it is suppose to work.  Congress is the only branch of government with the authority to declare wars.  They should not be waiving their constitutional responsibility and giving it to the President.  If Congress cannot declare war against a specific nation, organization, or person for specific reasons, then they should not be declaring war at all.  To give a President - ANY President - a blank check to wage war anywhere and everywhere they see fit for any reason they deem necessary is reckless and not what the US Constitution intended.

As long as Public Law 107-40 remains in effect, then just like Bush43 and Obama, Trump has congressional approval to wage war anywhere on the planet he so desires.
