Vietnam War

Currently watching Ken Burns movie on the Vietnam War on NetFlix.

I can only tolerate a little at a time....just too painful.

Anyhow, of course he veers off into the leftwing view too often but it is still very informative.

What really jumps out at me is just how terribly the war was mismanaged.  The top brass just had no idea how to fight a guerrila war and LBJ was too frightened of China and Russia to take a lot of measures that would have really helped the war effort.

We grossly underestimated the North Vietnamese in the beginning ...and thought it would be a easy victory.  By the time we realized what we were really up against we had too much invested to just give up.  So a lot of kids lost their lives for nothing.

I agree Lumberjack as you posted in your last paragraph about under estimating the NVA they were well experienced "Tunnel Rats" that goes back since "Stonehenge" LOL! Of course we had some experience as you know during WWII and Korean war digging out the rats on the Pacific islands and the tunnels and mountain caves in Korea. I didn't quite get to Vietnam (got injured at Camp Pendleton)  so my time was cut short but did achieve a couple of awards and all the info/training that I cherish to this day! USMCR '67 take care Lumberjack.
