In high school, I cut my morning classes one day. When I arrived in class, I was sent to the "Boys Vice-Principal's" office.  He informed me he was going to lay on a paddle with holes in it, ("to lighten it"), so turn around and grab your ankles!

I politely told him I wasn't going to "turn around and grab my ankles for anybody"!

So he called my dad at work, and when I got home, the old man told me to "bend over and grab your ankles."  He used a piece of hardwood flooring.  Made a distinct impression, lemme' tell you!  Wink Grin  Shoulda' settled for the VP's paddle!

But, to answer the question, I don't think schools should hand out that kind of punishment because, depending on the teacher's view of the student, he may be TOO hard in swinging paddles.  It's the parent's job to do that.
Unfortunately, too many of the parents are pu**ies!
I was quite familiar with the old saying, "spare the rod; spoil the child!"

I never struck/hit/paddled any of my children. However, they were indeed punished for wrong doing and rewarded for good acts. Both of my surviving children (one has passed) are decent Christian adults who have never been in trouble and contribute to society. I grew up as a Quaker and am not generally inclined to use any form of violence toward children.

I would almost go along with this. I have a grandchild in middle school that I am raising. The public schools seem to be run by the inmates, rather than the adults.  However, to allow this you would have to trust the administration, with whom I generally do not agree on what is described as a "bad act".  So I'd have to say no unless there were written guidelines and corroboration by multiple witnesses of said "bad act".  But I am very concerned that most schools do not seem to be in control of the students. I see the way 7th and 8th grade girls dress and hear my grandson describe the way students talk during class, roam around, etc. He's hardly innocent either, lol.

The problem today is the schools are prevented from corporal punishment and many of the parents don't even care to punish their children in any manner.

You nailed it. I have a relative who is involved in education at the principal level. I was told before she can even tell a parent what a child did wrong, little Johnny or Jane's mom is defending her child and insisting the teacher is to blame or is exaggerating... and that their precious child could never do such a thing.

I do not dispute this at all (sort of). However, one big mistake the schools make is "privacy". If somebody hits my grandson we never know if/what punishment the other child received because of "privacy".  So the kid never knows if anybody got in trouble for what they did.  Not so when I was a kid...the entire school knew when somebody was in trouble. Good deterrent for all.

My teacher asked me what my favorite animal was, and I said, "Fried chicken."

She said I wasn't funny, but she couldn't have been right, because everyone else laughed. My parents told me to always tell the truth. I did. Fried chicken is my favorite animal. I told my dad what happened, and he said my teacher was probably a member of PETA. He said they love animals very much. I do too. Especially chicken, pork, and beef. Anyway, my teacher sent me to the principal's office. I told him what happened, and he laughed to. Then he told me not to do it again.

The next day in class my teacher asked me what my favorite live animal was. I told her it was chicken. She asked me why, so I told her it was because you could make them into fried chicken. She sent me back to the principals office. He laughed, and told me not to do it again.

I don't understand. My parents taught me to be honest, but my teacher doesn't like it when I am. Today my teacher asked me to tell her what famous person I admired most. I told her "Colonel Sanders" Guess where I am now...
