Democrats Embrace Socialism in Battle to Win Midterm Elections

That's really is the choice in the midterms. Curiously I'm sure we all know some older Democrats who ordinarily would vote their party line but aren't in sync with the far left of their party. I wonder if they will subscribe to the socialist way and vote Democrat.

"To achieve their electoral goals, the Democrats are employing a multi-tiered approach. In conservative states that voted for Trump in 2016, the party has nominated candidates who project moderate images but who, in most cases, default to socialist positions. In reliably “blue” states such as Massachusetts and New York, Democratic candidates are openly proclaiming a commitment to socialism.

A prominent example of a Democrat candidate running in a “red” state is occurring in Texas. U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke, frequently described as Kennedyesque, is challenging the Republican incumbent, Sen. Ted Cruz. Cruz currently leads O’Rourke by six points, according to the latest Real Clear Politics average of polling data.

According to the Texas Observer, O’Rourke had high praise for socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), calling him the “absolute champion” of single-payer health care in the United States, and his presidential campaign “transformational [and] the catalyst for the conversation this country has needed to have for a long time.”

‘Future of Our Party’

The most prominent socialist running as a Democrat this year is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the 28-year-old former bartender who won a primary election last June against 10-term incumbent Rep. Joseph Crowley in New York. Her political résumé includes membership in the DSA and working for Sanders when he ran for president in 2016.

An avalanche of mostly favorable mainstream coverage of Ocasio-Cortez’s primary win and her assured victory in the midterms—since the Republican opposition in her New York City district is only token—have quickly brought her to the fore as a potential new leader of the party.

After her primary victory, DNC Chairman Tom Perez enthusiastically declared Ocasio-Cortez as representing “the future of our party.” Not coincidentally, her heightened profile has also helped to attract thousands of new members to the DSA."

My father and I were both democrats, up through Kennedy.  After his fiasco with the Cuban "invasion", we both--independently--became republicans.   (I refused to vote for Nixon, however!)
So it's not really correct to say that the old-time democrats will always vote democrat.  Many of them voted for Trump in the past election.

So many Dems, mostly the young, ignorant of history and don't understand that the Socialism they favor has destroyed every nation that has tried it. Venezuela is the most recent example.

Because of the abundance of oil in Venezuela, that country used to be one of the wealthiest nations in Latin America. Unfortunately, the people voted in a Socialist government that has reduced that nation into destructive socialism.

For example, in one of the major cities in Venezuela the city officials only turn on the city water system for one day each month. On that day the people line up with every container they can come up with and stand in line for hours and hours to fill up those containers with enough water to last them for a whole month. Of course, there is no way that those residents can get enough water to last them for a month until the city turns on the water again.

The Democrat Party is promising to make America Venezuela.

Do you think the Socialist voters in Venezuela had any idea it would end like this ? Is it the fact they see "free everything" for everyone that makes people vote like this?  Even many Americans, don't seem to realize SOMEONE has to pay for all their "free" stuff.

I was too young to vote back then, but I doubt I would have voted for Nixon. Oh, in retrospect there were some things Nixon did alright, but other things not so much. When Watergate surfaced I remember my Dad saying something like. "Well what do they expect, it is Nixon after all"....and my Dad was not a Democrat.
