The President does not hold absolute God-like power. Wanting to do something as President is one thing, actually being able to do it is quite another thing.

Of course.    But it is good to know where you want to go even if you can't eventually get there.

I've been out of pocket for awhile.   Now I intend to go back and work on how to create the political climate that would be necessary to bring most of these ideas to fullfillment.

One thing I plan to do is run for the state legislature with one of my platform p lans being preventing the forcible closure of small schools by the state government.    Keeping small schools open and small communities viable is a big deal in this state.

I also want as one of my platform planks being the manner in which this state pays out its state unemployment benefits.   For example if a person is eligible for 20 weeks of unemployment benefits I want them to be capable of taking a certain amount of those benefits as a lump sum to offer the possibility of paying for reeducation or moving expenses.   Details would have to be worked out of course.

Nothing will improve as long as there are ObamRATS holding public office (goes for RomnyRATS too). Get the CommieRATS out then organize do away with the waste and start over (it's too far gone to waste time now)!

I have a question about this:
ncrease the gas tax by $1.00/gallon and index it to inflation. Revenues from federal taxes on motor fuels are credited to the Highway Trust Fund, which finances highway construction and maintenance. Those federal taxes are currently 18.4 cents on each gallon of gasoline purchased and 24.4 cents on each gallon of diesel fuel.   Eliminate taxes on over the road diesel.  It is estimated that the highway account faces $125 billion in deficits over the next 10 years.  Effect on deficit: -$720 billion.

How much of that money really goes to construction and maintenance?  Does it even really go into the highway trust fund?  I could probably find this out, but I'm lazy.  Grin

Loved your post and really liked your ideas.  Unfortunately, most of this would never get past our congress critters.

No need to increase the tax. States also have a gas tax to serve the same purpose. Reduce the number of federal highways, turn them over to the states, let states increase gas taxes as they deem necessary to cover the cost. Be cheaper that way.

Think of any tax designed to serve specific needs pretty much like Social Security taxes...… without the backing of bonds. The government dumps all taxes into one pile and allocate as they see fit.

Note for those of you who say "It's impossible to reduce the federal budget deficit by 50% in one year".

Please note 1996 to 1997.

U.S. Deficit by Year Compared to GDP, Debt, and Events

https://www.thebalance.com/us-deficit-by-year-3306306

The U.S. federal budget deficit was reduced by 80% in a single year.
And 2012 to 2013, federal budget deficit reduced by 38% in a single year.
And this was despite the presidency and Congress being held by opposing parties.

So it is doable. It has been done within the memory of many of us.

I would make sure the National Endowment for the Arts spent the money where it would do the most good...

And yes, "I've Got a Little List..." (thanks G & S)

I could never be President...I'd be dead before the campaign was over. No, I'm the type who internalizes stress too much. I also have a bit of a temper, especially when I see injustice...and there's far, far too much injustice nowadays.

We value all opinions on CF. Your post was a bit long but well written and you did get your thoughts across.
Citizens come up with some great ideas but our elected officials refuse to give many of them a chance.
As for me, I go with 4 specific ideas. My " must do's" to save what's left of the republic.
1. Rebuild our shattered military. Training real fighting men cannot be done overnight. Neither can building ships.
2. Stop almost ALL immigration for at least 10 years. Let in only the best of the best.
3. Deport illegal aliens, remove all incentives from more to come here, stop chain migration laws, amnesty and anything else drawing them in.
4. Make the USA energy independent.  We have oceans of oil and some of the cleanest coal in the world.
If we lose our country everything else is irreverent.

I'm not sure the government should be controlling the porn business.  The entire post is reducing government size and regulations, but then wants a regulation over personal morals.

Can't have it both ways.

In general reducing government size and regulations is a good idea,  but when it comes to basic issues of public order and related measures I have no problem with regulation and government stepping in.
