Recidivism rate in Florida is one out of three will reoffend in the first three years after release.  Republicans recommended a five year period after release to prove habilitation, democrats demanded immediate restoration of rights upon release.....political commercials for this referendum showed a nice family man with his wife and children...….and the public fell for it.   The result is, thousands of Florida felons voting mostly democrat in 2020 will probably turn the state blue.

Tomorrow is promised to no one.

Be careful what you believe. The law only restores voting rights to felons "upon completion of their sentences, including prison, parole and probation."

The law just modified was similar, except there was an additional waiting period of 5-7 years after completion of sentence, and they had to apply to the courts to have their rights reinstated. So, really, the only thing significantly changed is the waiting period after completion of sentence.

The new law excludes those convicted of murder or any violent sexual offense. Under the old law, exclusion of these offenders was accomplished through the application process.

As for giving voting rights to 1.5 million, those sound like rather fishy stats to me. (as in wildly inflated.) Seriously. In the first place, how many convicted felons stay clean through their entire sentence, including probation and parole after being released from prison?

In the second place, with a total population of 21 million, just over 17 million over the age of 18, does anyone REALLY think almost 1/10 of Florida's voting-age population is comprised of convicted felons who have completed their sentences, including probation and parole?

Recent elections in FL have been settled by 100,000 votes or less. Even if the 1.5 million figure is overblown, it is still bad news for us.

As this was a Dim action then restoring voting rights is STEP 1.  STEP 2 will be declaring them a minority and giving them the magic "Protected Class" privileges that the rest of the minorities get.  Head of the line status for taxpayer funded bennies in trade for a vote every now and then...

So many times I have said this and it either gets ignored or frowned upon. It's nice to cheerlead Republicanism/Conservatism but it has to be tempered with a big dose of reality.

The population is aging and as such those of us that fit the above description die off... it's pretty clear that we are not be replaced in large enough numbers to continue to hold the fort so to speak. Doubt it? Take a look at just the last two decades and all the races that were won by razor thin margins in places where it should easily have been a blow-out.

Liberalism/Progressivism/Socialism is a cancer that can not be cured

If a one time offender, I think it is okay to restore their voting rights. If a repeat offender, then the five-year rule should apply. If any of them commit another crime, all voting rights should be taken away. There must be a lot of Floridians without any sense whatsoever. Maybe some of these Floridians should have a crime committed against them, then maybe they would see why felons should not have any voting rights....ever! IMHO

Let's have a recount on that vote; counting chads is fun Smiley

Oh well, I thought it was over.  Now Democrats will pull out their trump card in Dade County where fake ballot boxes are stored just incase they are losing.  Probably till have them with hanging chads.  The old Democrat playbook.

What you bet both races end up in Florida Supreme Court?

Rubio is absolutely right. Hopefully State inspectors and Republican lawyers will closely monitor any schnanigans, especially in Broward and Palm Beach Counties.  Final decision will be announced Saturday afternoon.

Deja vu all over again; both will end up in the Florida Supreme Court and the US Supreme Court.  Can't ya just hear the whining  like in 2000?

"and they had to apply to the courts to have their rights reinstated"

Does that change? That would make it much easier if it changes.
