The 737 was first introduced in 1967.  Just a wild guess.......It isn't the airplane.

You have to wonder about maintenance on Ethiopian Air but this was a new plane and I believe the second of it's kind to crash recently. Design flaw?

"It was not immediately clear what caused the crash of the Boeing 737-8 MAX plane, which was new and had been delivered to the airline in November, according to records obtained by the Associated Press.

The plane showed unstable vertical speed after takeoff, air traffic monitor Flightradar 24 said in a Twitter post."

In October, another Boeing 737-8 MAX plunged into the Java Sea just minutes after taking off from Jakarta, Indonesia's capital, killing all 189 people on board the Lion Air flight. In that crash, the cockpit data recorder showed that the jet's airspeed indicator had malfunctioned on its last four flights, though Lion Air initially claimed that problems with the aircraft had been fixed.

Either way may they R.I.P.

Not sure what to think of this.

Some folks say down draft, others maintenance, and others design flaw.

Never been on one of those myself ... but I think the black boxes will clear up a lot of questions.

I think it is a software problem/design flaw.  Boeing moved the engines closer to the fuselage to gain fuel efficiency in the design.  In doing so they pushed forward the center of gravity.  The new center of gravity causes increased risk of nose up pitch upon and after takeoff.  Because of this they installed a warning system which takes over flight controls to advert a stall scenario.  The pilots have never been trained on this system and there have been numerous reports of control difficulty when this warning system takes over.   Undecided

…..Boeing had 2 crashes with their earlier 737's due to rudder problems.  They eventually figure out what was going on.
