Who Lives In Texas and What is it Like There?

I am considering a move from California to Texas.  I am looking around New Braunfels. Something maybe in between San Antonio and Austin. I am wondering what the weather is like there. I would like to stay away from extreme weather such as tornados, but I also need to be within a few hundred miles or so of the ports. How is the humidity?

bloody hot with mid to mid high humidity, (I live in Oklahoma and frequent texas) so it's pretty miserable in the summer IMO. however conservative Californians are sure welcome here in the region. Texas is getting a little too left lately, they say from the influx of new yorkans and Californians.

What do you mean by hot? Where I am in California we average about 100 in the summer. If its less than that im good with it. Humidity Im worried about. Ours is around 20-40%.

100 with 20% humidity will feel like a cool fall day compared to mid Texas in the summer.

CZ:  How can you consider leaving beautiful CA???

Just think of everything you'll miss:
Maxine W. with her mouth open?
Nancy Peelousy, with nothing to say?

Our movie star guv who keeps grandstanding?  (At least he's stopped the "train to nowhere", but not sure about the tunnels!)

Taken altogether, it's a side show many would pay to see, doncha' think?  Grin Grin

We live roughly half way between Houston and Galveston. Our winters are pleasant - mild with plenty of  rain - with only rare frosty days and even rarer snow. Back about 10-15 years ago, we actually had a white Christmas - an inch of snow. Strangely, Victoria, well to the south of us. had 24 inches of snow.

We have lived here since 1974 and the lowest temperature we experienced was 7o. Unfortunately, that occurred over the Christmas holidays when a lot of people were out of town and their water pipes froze and burst and flooded their homes - the total damage was something on the order of $2 Billion for the entire Houston area.

We have experienced 3 hurricanes where we were without power for as much as 2 weeks.

The White Christmas was 2004, but snow is not the norm, I am in Houston.  It was 70 today, nice.  Last summer it did not hit 100.  It is hot here but nothing unbearable, everything has AC.  Hurricanes is the big disaster here, last one was 2008, so not that often.  Tornados are unusual. -- If you are thinking Austin, that is a college town and pretty liberal.  The big cities are Democrat strongholds.  I have no complaints, I would not move anywhere.  Hope you decide to "Come On Down".

Check weather history for average humidity.  Down near Houston, it's not comfy, so I'm told.  I live in North Dallas and it's fine here.
