Feds cancer advice may not be best

I contend, rightly or wrongly, that if we weren't spending so much money on illegal aliens (build the damn wall) and people and things that do nothing for the money, we could spend more on quality of life for American citizens.

I could name many other things we could spend money on to benefit the American people.  So, is the federal government's advice on screening for cancers wrong?  They are trying to mitigate cost vs benefit for screening for certain cancers - this article focuses on pancreatic and lung.  I have a friend whose father and sister have died from pancreatic cancer.  I would say the other siblings are high risk.  My husband, a former smoker, gets the low-dose lung cancer CT scan.  Something to think about.

Realistically, it would not be cost effective to screen everyone for certain cancers.  And there is always risk of false negatives and false positives (very emotionally stressful).  All tests have some risks. However, it is known who is at higher risk and it may be proper to do it.

They're gearing up for single payer so these tests won't have to be covered. I've never trusted these "guidelines".  Their findings regarding the frequency/necessity of tests change constantly. I think it's whoever "donated" the most money, either the insurance companies or big pharma, or the companies that make the equipment.

I know someone who made a great living selling medical equipment. My wife's "former" friend who thought she was better than everybody when her husband made enough money to buy a mansion.  Roll Eyes
