…..correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't some dumb clerk or office worker have to hit on a 'fishing' scheme for ransomware to get in?   I suspect they have a bunch of 'new arrivals' working in these offices who have no idea what they're doing.

This happened to the company I used to work for a few years ago. They do hospital medical records and they were down for over a month. Major hospitals had zero patient records. It was a disaster. Turned out their virus and malware protection program was way out of date. Stupid asses.

Firewalls, daily backups with air gaps from main computer, educate employees, etc, their are ways to prevent this!

The people that do this crap, should be tracked down, publicly flogged with a whip and made to be a slave to the people he screwed with until he has paid off his debt. Angry

My laptop was once hit by ransomware. I shot the hostage. I crashed it then rebooted to factory settings. Fortunately I never store any personal information on my hard drive. Only on flash drives.

The only controls I want on my guns are the ones I operate by myself, such as safety, magazine release, bolt or slide, optics an' trigger. Any others are unnecessary.

There are some where the users don't even have to click on anything, but generally, I think patches are available for those.

Our company does frequent 'fake' fishing emails.  Any employee that clicks on them have do to extra training on avoidance.

I've been caught a few times, but they they make it really hard because they use current email topics that are directly related to work and have CC's that are valid for coworkers.  They also  mangle the real URL by routing them through some 'defensive' software so you can't tell by just looking at the URL in the emails..

Plus, everything is in the 'cloud' now, so external links for emails/pages/etc are now normal.

UG.. so hard..but they are trying to keep us safe. Undecided

We'll be back to typewriters and fax machines if this keeps up.
